British-Palestinian Journalist Abdel Bari Atwan Accuses U.S. Of Trying To Split Syria, Calls On Syrians To March On U.S. Bases: The U.S. Only Understands The Language Of Force

British-Palestinian journalist Abdel Bari Atwan said in a video posted to his YouTube channel on September 8, 2023 that America's military intervention in Syria has failed and that it is now attempting to intervene politically under the pretext that the population is suffering from famine. He said that the U.S. is attempting to establish a Druze state in southern Syria and that the ultimate goal is to split Syria – and all the other Arab countries in the Middle East and North Africa – into several sect-based states in order to ensure that Israel remains the regional superpower. Atwan said that this "scheme" must be opposed and that the Syrian government needs the help of the "resistance axis."

He elaborated: "Otherwise, what's the point in having 150,000, 200,000, or 400,000 rockets? What are these missiles good for, if Syria is divided into six different states?" In addition, he said that millions of Syrians should march towards Deir Al-Zour and the eastern side of the Euphrates River in order to show their opposition to the U.S. presence there. Moreover, he said that the U.S. is attempting to starve the Syrian people so that they capitulate, and he argued that America only understands the language of force, as was evident in Afghanistan and elsewhere. He added: "Which is better: Dying of starvation, or defending their country against this invading colonizer?"

Abdel Bari Atwan: "The [American] military intervention in Syria has failed, and now they want to intervene politically, under the pretext that the people are suffering from famine and starvation.

"This plan must be opposed. It is escalating. In fact, they are trying to establish a Druze state in southern Syria, and build military bases there, like they did east of the Euphrates. What should be our response to this? They want this state to become a buffer between Syria and the Israeli occupation state, so that the Golan Heights become a permanent Israeli territory, from which they will never withdraw.

[...]

"Syria cannot confront this scheme all by itself. This is the responsibility of the resistance axis. Otherwise, what's the point in having 150,000, 200,000, or 400,000 rockets? What are these missiles good for, if Syria is divided into six different states? It will not even be divided into two. Each sect and ethnic group will have a state. The Kurds will have a state, the Druze will have a state, the Sunnis will have a state, the Alawites will have a state, and so on. Every city will become a state. This pattern will be extended to all the Arab countries. It will reach Saudi Arabia and Iraq. It has already reached Libya. It is already happening in Sudan, and it will reach Algeria and Morocco.

"This is a conspiracy against the entire region. The Americans are experts in destroying the Arabs, so that Israel remains the regional superpower.

[...]

"By Allah, millions of Syrians should march towards Deir Al-Zour. Millions of them should go to the area east of the Euphrates. They must declare: 'We do not want to starve. This is our country, our gas, and our oil. We want to stay in this area. Let's see what America will do about it.' There should be marches. The Syrian government must also act. This must not be allowed to happen. It is dangerous. The [Syrian government] says that this is 'strategic patience.'

"Well, they have starved the Syrian people, and now they want to carry it to the Iraqi people, so that people say: We do not care who rules us, just save us from this starvation. We want milk and bread for our children. This is a very dangerous plan. America only understands the language of force. America did not leave Afghanistan voluntarily, and did not withdraw from any country or war without [facing] a real force. Let whatever happens happen. Which is better: dying of starvation, or defending their country against this invading colonizer?"
