Iranian President Rouhani: KSA, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Owe Their Existence to Iran; Trump Cannot Cut Iran's Oil Exports to Zero, It Is legal for US to Smuggle Oil

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani spoke in a cabinet meeting that was aired on Iranian IRINN TV on April 24, 2019. In his statement, he said negotiations with the US will only be possible if it apologizes for its thuggish behavior towards Iran. Rouhani said that the US is not prepared to hold negotiations with Iran and that “its actions and measures are meant to break the Iranian people”. Rouhani added: “We must first make America regret this. […] When they reach the conclusion that their calculations were wrong and when they are ready to resolve the issues in a legal and reasonable way, we will negotiate with them.” Rouhani stated that: “Saudi Arabia and the UAE should know that their existence and survival is due to the wisdom of the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran.” According to Rouhani, former Iraqi president, Saddam Hussein, “begged” Iran to collaborate in the occupation of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar, saying: “I will let you take what you want [of these countries], if you leave me some.” Rouhani said that these countries “should be grateful to Iran” but instead they promised US President Donald Trump that they would offset Iran’s oil quotas. He said that although Trump thinks he can cut Iranian oil export to zero, this will not happen: “We will sell our oil in different ways. What the Americans call “Smuggling” is legal and proper [in our case].”

Hassan Rouhani: Negotiations will be possible only if all the pressure is removed, if an [American] apology for all their mistakes is extended, and if mutual respect is established. If a bully draws a knife, grabs a dignified and polite man in the street, and drags him by force, saying: “I want to hold negotiations…” he drags him into a coffee shop, saying: “Tea and lunch are on me…” Clearly, that dignified man would not negotiate with that thug. This knife-drawing… This formula… It means humiliation and surrender. This cannot be called negotiations. In the current circumstance, the American… Our people should know this well. Some people think that America is prepared for negotiations, and it is Iran that is rejecting it. By no means is this the case. By no means is America prepared to hold negotiations. Its actions and measures are meant to break the Iranian people.

We must first make America regret this. There is no other way. We must first take actions to prove to the Americans that their calculations are wrong. When they reach the conclusion that their calculations were wrong, and when they are ready to resolve the issues in a legal and reasonable way, we will then negotiate with them. Today, however, the great Iranian nation has no way other than steadfastness and resistance to those transgressors.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE should know that they owe their existence and survival to the wisdom of the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

We were the ones who saved Saudi Arabia. We were the ones who prevented the occupation of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Had we made different decisions back then, there would have been no Saudi Arabia, no Kuwait, no Qatar today. They would all have been gone. Saddam begged us. He sent us private messages in various ways: “these are historic times. Let’s join forces. I will occupy these countries, and then we will be partners. I will let you take whatever you want, if you leave me some.”

These countries in our region should be grateful to Iran. They exist under the auspices of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Yet they talk to Trump and tell him that they will be able to offset Iran’s [quota] if we are not allowed to export oil. Can you really do that? Do you realize the ramifications? Do you understand the meaning of this? Do you realize that it means clear enmity with the Iranian people? don’t you know that Trump will be gone soon, but Iran is eternal? Don’t you know this?

[…]

You are alive because of us. We prevented the elimination of your countries.  We did not allow your countries to be taken over. But today, you are collaborating with our enemies. Trump thinks that with his games he can bring Iran’s oil export down to zero. This is impossible. Iran’s oil export will not be zero. We will sell our oil in different ways. What the Americans call “smuggling” is legal and proper [in our case]. The Americans treat the whole world – not just Iran- with injustice. They treat all the oil companies in the world with injustice. They treat all the oil importers with injustice. They treat the market and the American people with injustices. They raise the price of oil. All this because you have internal problems?

[…]

You know that we are the greatest power in the region. You know that if we decide otherwise, and if it becomes necessary, we will put our will into action.
