Lebanese journalist Abir Bassam said on a February 25, 2024 show on Al-Manar TV (Hizbullah-Lebanon) that she is most pleased when she hears that Hizbullah attacks Safed. She explained that this is because Safed is "where the rich Ashkenazi Jews live now." She added that this is where the "Zionist oligarchy live." Bassam continued to explain that the Ashkenazi Jews are the "most important people" in Palestine, people like Prime Minister Netanyahu and former Prime Minister Golda Meir.

Abir Bassam: "The path taken by the resistance, expanding the scope of the war... The thing that pleases me most is when they attack Safed."

Interviewer: "What does Safed mean to you?"

Bassam: "I have a very close friend who is from Safed. One day, she told me and a member of Hizbullah about the importance of Safed. Safed is where the rich Ashkenazi Jews live now – people who are like Netanyahu, Gold Meir, like the people who came from..."

Interviewer: "This is why the resistance fighters were told to target Safed."

Bassam: "You may say that Safed is where the Zionist oligarchy live. Safed is where the riches people of the Zionist entity live."

Interviewer: "The elite..."

Bassam: "Yes, the elites. Of course. They are Ashkenazi Jews who came from Poland, and consider themselves to be top-tier Jews. They are the most important people who are now in Palestine. They include the Poles, the Russians, the Ukrainians, the Hungarian, like what's-his-name... Herzl. He was an Ashkenazi Hungarian Jews. Safed is a bastion of those people."
