Saleh Al-Arouri, the deputy chairman of Hamas's political bureau, said in a July 3, 2023 interview on Al-Aqsa TV (Hamas-Gaza) that the Palestinian people should support Palestinians in the Jenin refugee camp and "take action" by any means available. Al-Arouri said that the Palestinians should follow the example of the "heroes" who have retaliated for the "occupation's crimes" in the past, such as Khairy Alqam, who murdered seven Israelis in a Jerusalem shooting attack in January. He said: "We are all prepared to sacrifice our souls for the sake of Allah." Al-Arouri added that the occupation doesn't understand that Palestinians want to become martyrs.

Saleh Al-Arouri: "I call upon all our people, all our fighters, and anyone who has the opportunity and the means to support our people in the Jenin refugee camp – take the initiative and take action by any means available [to them]. Anyone who cannot take [to the battlefield] should demonstrate. Anyone who can engage in popular resistance – should do so. Anyone who can block the settlements' roads – should do so. Anyone who can take up weapons – should do so.

"We had heroes in the past, who retaliated for the occupation's crimes in the West Bank – they are the best role models for us to follow. Khairy Alqam, a 22-year-old young man – when the Jenin refugee camp was attacked, and ten of our people were martyred, a woman in her sixties, some young fighters, as well as some little children- he took a handgun and he retaliated against the occupation. He retaliated twofold, and he made them understand that we are not free prey, and that our blood is not cheap. There were many other heroes like him.

[...]

"Whenever the occupation is targeting any fighter in Palestine – for us it is the same as if it was targeting any leader in the resistance. We are one body and one spirit. We, the current leaders, used to be in the same trenches that the fighters and the mujahideen are fighting in now. We change our roles according to the needs of the resistance.

"There is no soul or spirit that is dearer than the other. The souls and spirits of every one of us are cheap for the sake of Allah, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the other holy places, our people, our freedom, and the future of our children. We are all prepared to sacrifice our souls for the sake of Allah.

"The occupation does not and will never understand that we indeed want to become martyrs for the sake of Allah, our cause, our homeland, and our holy places."
