Hamas Official Mohammad Nazzal Reacts To Germany's Announcement It Will Defend Israel At The ICJ: Germany Is Paying An Unacceptable Price For Its Historical Complex About The 'So-Called Holocaust'

Mohammad Nazzal, a member of the Hamas political bureau, responded on a January 12, 2024 show on Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar) to Germany's statement it would intervene on behalf of Israel in proceedings against it in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. He said that Germany is paying an "unacceptable price" for its complex about the "so-called 'Holocaust' and the victims of the Nazi holocaust." Nazzal added that this is "unparalleled extortion." He continued to say that the Jews today are perpetrating a "new holocaust" against the Palestinian people.

Host: "Germany has declared that it wants to join the Israeli occupation, in defending its position against the claim made by South Africa. What is your response to this?"

Mohammad Nazzal: "Unfortunately, Germany is paying the price for its historical complex, about the so-called 'Holocaust' and the victims of the Nazi holocaust. Unfortunately, it is paying the price financially, politically, legally, and morally, since the time the Nazis carried out the so-called 'Holocaust' against the Jews. Regardless of the different views about the scope of the holocaust that took place, the price that Germany is paying for this complex is unacceptable, and it constitutes an extortion which is unparallelled in history. Therefore, the consecutive German governments have been paying a price for something that they did not do – the Nazis did it. Sadly, the occupation is bringing to bear the mental complex, which is frequently discussed by psychiatrists, of victims perpetrating the same thing that was done to them. If the Nazis perpetrated the so-called 'Holocaust' against the Jews of that time, then [the Jews] themselves are perpetrating a new holocaust against the Palestinian people."
