Saudi Journalist Dr. Amal Al-Hazzani: The Palestinians Should Be More Appreciative Of Saudi Support; Instead, They Supported Saddam, The Houthis, Iran; Palestine Is One Of My Causes, Not My Main Cause

Saudi journalist Dr. Amal Al-Hazzani, who is a professor of molecular genetics, said that the Palestinians are incapable of doing anything to further their cause, and all they do is fight among themselves. She made her remarks on Al-Arabiya Network (Saudi Arabia) on June 18, 2021. Dr. Al-Hazzani explained that the Palestinians are like a family member with health problems, who receives his family's help to such an extent that he is incapable of doing anything for himself. She continued to say that Yasser Arafat supported Saddam Hussein when he invaded Kuwait and Hamas identifies with the Houthis, who have attacked Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Hazzani said that even if Hamas needs Iran or the Houthis, they should show more appreciation for Saudi Arabia and specified that this applies to both Fatah and Hamas.  She said that Hamas launched rockets against Israel from residential buildings and Israel retaliated. Al-Hazzani added: "We must recognize who was in the wrong. We should not be blinded by our hatred toward Israel."

Dr. Amal Al-Hazzani: "We treat Palestine as if we were one Arab Family, and one family member has a health problem or whatever, so the entire family supports him, sometimes even excessively. It gets to the point where that person feels this is too much, and stops making an effort to become self-reliant. What have the Palestinians done for Palestine in the past five years? Arab countries, first and foremost Saudi Arabia, have provided non-stop political and financial support. Saudi Arabia is considered the [primary] supporter of the Palestinian cause in international forums...  Throughout history. Honestly, all the Palestinians have been doing is fight among themselves. Even regarding the reconstruction [of Gaza] after the war... If the U.S. had not put Egypt in charge of monitoring the reconstruction, [The Palestinians] would have fought over this issue as well.

"Let's recall that the late Yasser Arafat was against Saudi Arabia and Kuwait in the Gulf War. He said it loud and clear, and he met with Saddam Hussein back then, and supported his invasion of Kuwait. This is a clear and direct position, and not just a statement. We have recently seen how Hamas and its members identify with the Houthis, who did not only attack Riyadh, the capital that supports [the Palestinians], but also attacked Mecca. One cannot understand… Even if [Hamas] needs the Houthis or Iran, or anyone else, they should show more appreciation for Saudi Arabia than they do. By the way, this applies both to Fatah and Hamas. I think that Saudi Arabia is obligated to provide political and financial support, but it does not get the appreciation it deserves from the PLO or from Hamas."

Interviewer: "Do you see the Palestinian cause as your cause, Dr. Amal?"

Al-Hazzani: "It is one of my causes, but not the main one.

"Hamas launches its rockets from civilian buildings, then Israel responds by bombing the building and everything around it - bakeries, grocery stores and so on. We must recognize who was in the wrong. We should not be blinded by our hatred toward Israel and fail to see the whole truth, from all the different angles."
