Lebanese Minister of the Interior Mohammed Fahmi said that prisoners in Lebanon are better off than ordinary citizens, as they get to eat beef and chicken and receive medical treatment and medicine. He made these remarks on a show that aired on MTV (Lebanon) on June 3, 2021. The show's host said in jest: "People, commit crimes and go to prison!" Fahmi replied that some prisoners ask to remain in prison even though they have completed their sentence because there they are fed and receive medical treatment.

Mohammed Fahmi: "With regard to feeding the prisoners – do you believe me when I tell you that they are better off than the Lebanese citizens who are not in prison? At least they still eat beef and chicken, and still get medical treatment and medicine."

Interviewer: "People, commit crimes and go to prison!"

Fahmi: "Trust me, there are people whose jail time has ended, but they do not want to be released from prison, where they are being fed, and receive medical treatment."

Interviewer: "Great..."
