Lebanese Sunni Imam Ahmad Al-Assir Threatens Hassan Nasrallah and Nebih Berri: I Will Not Let You Sleep at Night

Source: Al-Jadeed TV (Lebanon)LBC (Lebanon)

Following are excerpts from an address with Lebanese Sunni Imam Ahmad Al-Assir, which aired on LBC TV on June 23, 2012, and from an interview with Al-Assir, which aired on Al-Jadeed/New TV on June 24, 2012.

June 23, 2012 (LBC):

Imam Ahmad Al-Assir: Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, hand your weapons over to the army. Mr. Nabih Berri, hand your weapons over to the state army. The state and its army are not venerated, because someone else’s weapons are stronger than theirs.

Sheik Hassan Nasrallah and Mr. Nabih Berri, if you don’t calm things down, I swear by Allah that if I am still alive, I will not let you sleep at night. By Allah, I will not let you sleep at night. By peaceful means, of course. I will not let you sleep at night.

[…]

I challenge you directly, Berri and Nasrallah – if things do not calm down, I swear by Allah that I will not let you sleep at night, along with your wives and children. It will be by peaceful means, until balance is restored to Lebanon.

June 24, 2012 (Al-Jazeed/New TV):

I raised my voice because whenever the attacks against us Sunnis escalate, the other side [the Shiites] says that there is a risk of sectarian war. This little game is a great insult to us.

[…]

They escalate their attacks and hint at sectarian war. It is as if they are saying: “Remain submissive and obedient to your supreme god – which is us – and say ‘we hear and obey,’ as you have been saying throughout the years. No matter how much we attack you, don’t say ‘ouch!’”

[…]

I say to Nabih Berri and to Hassan Nasrallah: I swear by Allah that if you continue with this policy, I will not let you sleep at night.

[…]

Since 2006, there have been daily Israeli violations. Shepherds in South Lebanon are abducted on a daily basis. What has Nizbullah done with its weapons? The military commander of Hizbullah was assassinated, and they want to retaliate – but what have they done with their weapons since 2006? These weapons have become venerated.

Hizbullah raised the slogan of Palestine, the resistance, and South Lebanon, but they are not acting out of love for south Lebanon or for Palestine.

Rather, it is for the sake of their sectarian enterprise of the Rule of the Jurisprudent. If this is what they believe in, they should declare it out in the open. Why are they ashamed of it? Why are they using the resistance as a Trojan horse to get their plan through?

[…]

Either we live as equal partners, or else, I swear by Allah, oh Hassan Nasrallah and Nabih Berri, I, Ahmad Al-Assir, will shed every drop of my blood to prevent you from relaxing until balance is restored to Lebanon.

Interviewer: By peaceful means?

Ahmad Al-Assir: Yes, peacefully.

I wish I could be the pilot who would deliver the nation from Bashar Al-Assad.

Interviewer: But still, he is the president of a country. You are breaking the law by saying that…

Ahmad Al-Assir: He is more abominable than a pig…
