In a January 3, 2022 speech at an event commemorating the second anniversary of the killing of IRGC Qods Force Commander General Qasem Soleimani, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi said that former U.S. President Donald Trump, who ordered the assassination of Soleimani, is a murderer who must stand trial and receive "retribution in kind" for his actions. Raisi said that a tribunal should be established to implement this "divine ruling" against Trump and his administration officials, and that if this does not happen, there should be no doubt that the "hand of revenge will emerge from the sleeve" of the Iranian nation. The audience chanted: "Allah Akbar [...] Death to America!"
Ebrahim Raisi: "A word to the Americans: Hajj Qasem Soleimani was an official guest of the Iraqi prime minister. Not only did you violate Iraq's sovereignty, you also assassinated an entire nation, not just one person. This terrible crime has caused the entire Islamic nation to suffer.
"What needs to be done? The primary violator, murderer, and criminal — the U.S. president at the time — must stand trial and receive retribution in kind. The divine ruling should be implemented in his case.
"If a just tribunal is founded to deal with Trump, Pompeo, and the rest of the criminals, and if this tribunal deals with their terrible crime, and they receive punishment for their heinous crimes — so be it.
"If not, have no doubt — and I say this to all the American statesmen — that the hand of revenge will emerge from the sleeve of the nation."
Crowd: "Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Allah Akbar! Khamenei is the Leader! Death to those who oppose the Rule of the Jurisprudent! Death to America! Death to England! Death to the hypocrites and infidels! Death to Israel!"
