In a Friday, May 5, 2023 sermon, Gazan Islamic scholar Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Aklouk warned "collaborators" with Israel that they will be shown no mercy "when we cleanse the West Bank from the occupation and its collaborators, just like we cleansed Gaza." He urged Palestinians in the West Bank to take note of others who arrest, harass, and spy on the mujahideen. The sermon was uploaded to Al-Aklouk's YouTube account, and it has been understood by many to be a threat directed against the Palestinian Authority, which has accused Hamas of inciting West Bank residents to stage a coup against it.
Mahmoud Al-Aklouk: "I say to our people in the West Bank: Memorize the names and faces of all those who harm and besmirch you, and collaborate with the occupation against you. Memorize their names well. Memorize the names of those who harm your sons, who arrest and harass them, and who spy on our children. Memorize their names.
"By Allah, we will show no mercy to any one of them, when we cleanse the West Bank from the occupation and its collaborators, just like we cleansed Gaza.
"We will show no mercy to any one of them, even if we saw them cling to the cover of the Kaaba. We will avenge the oppressed and the wounded. The hand that helped the occupation against the mujahideen will be chopped off."
