FSA Spokesman Rejects Russian Investigation into Chemical Weapons: Russia "the Main Killer" in Syria

Following are excerpts from an interview with Free Syrian Army spokesman Abd Al-Hamid Omar Zakariya, which aired on Al-Arabiya TV on April 26, 2013.

Interviewer: The [Syrian] regime says that if an investigation must be held into the possible use of chemical weapons, it must be conducted by the Russians. Would you agree for a Russian committee to investigate this?

Abd Al-Hamid Omar Zakariya: This is the most audacious farce. We are not referring to Russia as the Assad regime's accomplice in the killings in Syria. Rather, we are referring to Russia as the main killer. How can the killer become the judge?

Russia wants to cover up the crimes of Al-Assad, because of its complicity through its advisors in the use of chemical weapons, and through other military advisors.

How can we accept such a committee? If Russia is doing the investigation, I say that we can save time by letting the Assad regime investigate this crime by itself, just like it investigated the events in Deraa at the beginning of the revolution.

The U.S. is now saying that it is not sure whether the regime used chemical weapons, and instead of "red lines," it is talking about "game-changers" – although here in Syria, we are not playing games, only suffering massacres and death.

We are worried that the international community might tell Al-Assad that the use of chemical weapons outside Syria is the new red line.

The real question that everybody is asking is: How come killing the Syrians by means of chemical weapons crosses the red line, whereas there is a green light to killing the Syrians by means of any other type of weapon?
