Mohammad-Javad Larijani, who has previously served as a senior advisor to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and as Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister, said in an October 12, 2023 show on Channel 1 (Iran) that it would be a "strategic mistake" for the U.S. to get involved militarily in the Israel-Hamas war and that if American military assistance exceeds what it is claiming to provide, America will become a legitimate target for "resistance fighters" in the entire region. Larijani also said that the war will not be limited to Gaza and that America's presence in Syria and Iraq will become "very costly."
Mohammad-Javad Larijani: "It would be a strategic mistake for the U.S. to enter this conflict."
Interviewer: "From what perspective?"
Larijani: "From a few aspects. First, America will become a legitimate target for the resistance fighters in the entire region. The war will not be limited to Gaza. The U.S., will make itself the main target. This is absolutely in favor of the resistance.

"The resistance forces have better opportunities elsewhere, compared to what they had in Gaza. In other words, they realized what kind of operation they can carry out. Therefore, I predict that in the near future, America's presence in Syria and Iraq will be very costly for them.

"These battleships that the U.S. has deployed there... In my opinion, if the U.S. wants to support the Zionist regime seriously, sending missiles will not be enough, it has to send [U.S.] troops. If American involvement in this fight goes beyond what they claim, they have to know that they themselves will become legitimate targets for the resistance forces and their operations.
"They should be warned about this. No one is waiting for them with sweets. If they start fighting alongside the Zionists, they will have to know that they will have to pay the price. Neither their battleships nor their forces will be immune. They will get no special treatment. This [threat] will also not be limited to Gaza and the occupied territories. If the Americans become part of this fight, they would become targets for the resistance wherever they may be."
