Egyptian Islamist Businessman Ashraf Al-Sa'd: Osama Bin Laden Is Not All Bad; I Wish to Die as a Martyr in Palestine

#2243 | 02:53
Source: ON TV (Egypt)

Following are excerpts from an interview with Eqyptian Islamist businessman Ashraf Al-Sa'd, which aired on ON TV on August 18, 2009.

Interviewer: I will give you names, and you tell me what you think of these people, and how you are connected to them. Hassan Nasrallah.

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: He is a man of struggle, a man of Jihad, and I love and respect him very much. I hope, from the bottom of my heart, that God will grant him victory. I never had the honor of meeting Sheik Hassan Nasrallah – that would be a great honor for me.

Interviewer:Osama Bin Laden.

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: You are trying to stir things up. Where could I possibly meet him? If I knew him, you wouldn't be able to even interview me. Not everything about Osama Bin Laden is bad, but of course, I have disagreements with him. Look, ideologically, I support all these groups, as long as they don't bear arms or do anything in secret. I support all these ideas, I am not against anyone, as long as they do not bear arms unjustly, and do things in secret. I have no [problem] with anything that is out in the open. My best friend here in England is Christian. When you met me the day before yesterday, I was with him.

Interviewer: Does the same go for Al-Zawahiri?

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: Al-Zawahiri is an Egyptian. I don't think I've ever met him. Some things about him are good, and there are things... I don't have direct contact with him.

Interviewer: What do you think of martyrdom-seeking?

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: I hope to die a martyr's death on the land of Palestine.

Interviewer: But someone who commits martyrdom...

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: I wish to die in the land of Palestine. I hope you will not edit this out.

Interviewer: By God, I won't. But I ask you, someone who wears an explosives belt and blows himself up...

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: Where?

Interviewer: On a bus...

Ashraf Al-Sa'd: Look, President George W. Bush – I am about to start a political party named after him – He is my role model in many aspects. He said: "If my country were occupied, I would defend it in any way possible." This man has taught me many things. No one has taught me as much as him. President George W. Bush said: "If America were occupied, I would defend it with all possible means and measures." Anyone whose land is occupied has the right to defend it in any possible way.
