The following are excerpts from an interview with Al-Sharq Al-Awsat columnist, Najem Abd Al-Karim. Channel 1 of the Saudi TV aired this interview on March 2, 2005:
Najem 'Abd Al-Karim: As an Arab or a Muslim, did you invent the bullet or the pistol? Did you invent the bullets, pistols, intercontinental missiles, and all these nuclear weapons?
Interviewer: No.
Najem 'Abd Al-Karim: In the Holocaust, Hitler put a group of Jews in (gas chambers) – and the numbers are exaggerated – and they commemorate this to this very day. A few days ago, (Prince) Charles' son wore a shirt with something of the sort (a swastika) on it, and the entire world was in an uproar. I visited Algiers two years ago, and discovered a holocaust there. Algerians were thrown in ovens, but no one knows this.
When an American or European talks about you, they say: "Your transportation – camels, you are a backstabber," and so on… The American is very simple. By Allah, he's naive, but it is the institutional guidance that is destructive. Go to the Americans and say: "OK, I don't have a culture, I don't have civilization, I don't have… My transportation – camels, thank you very much. Believe this if you like." May I ask you a question: How come all the prophets were born in my area? Was Abraham born in Boston? Was Jesus born in Paris? Was Moses born in Frankfurt? They are all from my region, and they bequeathed me a culture.
