Chinese sociologist Dr. Li Yi said in an October 16, 2020 speech delivered at the Shenzhenwan Dialogue Forum in Shenzhen, China, that China would overtake the United States in GDP by 2027, and that COVID-19 has been harmful to the U.S. and Europe but beneficial to China and North Korea. He praised North Korea and its system for having "zero" COVID-19 cases and said that the number of COVID-19 deaths in China, which he claimed is 4,000, is virtually zero compared to the 220,000 deaths in the U.S..

In addition, Dr. Li Yi said that China is growing rapidly in economy, military, trade, and diplomacy, and that its development cannot be stopped, unless a Gorbachev-like leader comes to power "who would mess up China's own internal affairs and cause China to disintegrate." In addition, he said that most Americans hate China because it has pushed the U.S. into a corner, but he predicted that the U.S. will not sever diplomatic relations with China.

Furthermore, he said that there will not be a war between the U.S. and China because they are both nuclear powers. He did, however, say that China has yet to take over Taiwan. Dr. Yi holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Illinois and according to his LinkedIn account, he is a full-time professor at Renmin University in China. Following Dr. Yi's October 16 speech, Renmin University issued a statement denying his employment at the university. Dr. Yi's speech was uploaded to his personal YouTube account.

Dr. Li Yi: "It turns out that China is going to overtake the United States in 2027. It was said that this might be delayed for a year or two, but this year, God has pulled off a little trick, right? God created COVID-19 and spread it to every country in the world. The COVID-19 pandemic is like a test for all the countries in the world. The test is biased though. COVID-19 is bad for Europe and America but is beneficial for North Korea and China. That's why North Korea is number one in the global fight against the pandemic, and China is number two. North Korea has zero infections, right? Zero infections.

[...]

"So this system can do it. Our system is good, but not as good as North Korea's. We still have 4,000 dead, right? But if 4,000 [Chinese] die versus 220,000 in the United States, we haven't really lost a single person, have we? We're close to zero infections and zero deaths. If 4,000 people out of 1.4 billion people die, that's the same as no one getting sick and no one dying.

[...]

"In the global economy, China stands out. We are ahead of schedule in terms of overtaking the United States. There will be no problem reaching this goal in 2027. The U.S. will not survive. Now let me say again... Almost none of the 1.4 billion Chinese people realize this. It's not the U.S. that is screwing with China – we are the ones driving America to its death, because we're going to overtake the U.S. in 2027, in terms of GDP. If we go with the PPP, in terms of real purchasing power, we already surpassed the United States in 2014.

[...]

"Our economy went up, trade went up, and so did the military.

[...]

"We have struggled for more than a decade. In 2012, we achieved absolute superiority over the U.S. and Japan in the Taiwan Strait, but not in the world. We have gained absolute superiority over the U.S. military in the Bohai Sea, the Yellow Sea, and the Taiwan Strait, and we are expanding our military at a rate unprecedented in human history. We've been launching [fleets equivalent to] the French Navy every year, for several years – one French Naval tonnage per year. We will continue to launch the [equivalent of a] French navy for at least the next decade.

[...]

"In economy, military, trade, diplomacy, and all the international organizations we have joined, we are all fighting for the leadership position. Do you see? In the past, the U.S. was definitely the head or appointed head. Chinese people used to go there and say: 'This is very good, very good.' Now China says: 'It looks like it's [our] turn now.'

[...]

"You see us challenging U.S. military hegemony, the U.S. dollar hegemony, and challenging U.S. world trade hegemony. Except that we cannot challenge American technology and education, we are now challenging all American hegemony.

[...]

"As long as 1.4 billion Chinese people eat, sleep, defecate, and urinate every day... As long as we go to work every day, we will drive the U.S. to its death.

[...]

"In any case, China's development cannot be resisted or stopped. As long as one thing doesn't happen... As long as China doesn't produce a Gorbachev who would mess up China's own internal affairs and cause China to disintegrate, then [nobody] would be able to resist our development. That's the answer to your question. So America is panicking now. It is really panicking. This is why the two American parties, their government and military, their industry, their public officials, and academics, and all the American people of all walks of life – over 75 percent of the American people – now hate China. They hate China so much that they hope China collapses tomorrow and goes to hell, because China has pushed the U.S. into a corner. The conflict is irreconcilable.

[...]

"In a few words, the reason there won't be a war is because we have fought the War to resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, as well as the War to Aid Vietnam to Resist U.S. Aggression. These two wars have already been fought. Of course, we still have a war to fight. We have to take Taiwan, right? I'll take it. You don't even dare to fight me, whether I take it or not. If you want to fight China... China's 'Two Bombs and One Satellite' during Mao Zedong's era were ready for you. Do you dare? There is no war between nuclear powers. You must be kidding, right?

[...]

"The U.S. will dare to do anything it thinks of, no matter how nasty, with the exception of war of severing diplomatic relations."
