Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhao Lijian said in a December 6, 2021 statement that was aired by CGTN (China) that the U.S. must know that the One-China Principle cannot be challenged. He said that China will strive for peaceful reunification with Taiwan, but that if separatist forces cross the red line, China will have to take "decisive measures." In addition, he said that any action supporting Taiwanese independence is bound to fail.

Zhao Lijian: "The United States must be clear that the history and the legal facts of the One-China Principle cannot be challenged. With the utmost sincerity we will strive for peaceful reunification. But if separatist forces provoke or cross the red line, we will have to take decisive measures. Actions supporting independence forces and provoke the One-China Principle are bound to fail."
