Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, deputy chairman of the Sovereign Council in Sudan, said in an October 2, 2020 interview on Sudania 24 TV (Sudan) that Sudan should establish relations with Israel because this would serve its interests. He pointed out that this would result in the removal of Sudan from the list of states sponsoring terrorism, and he said the Sudan is still committed to the establishment of a Palestinian state. In addition, Dagalo said that Sudan would benefit from relations with Israel, particularly with regard to its technical and agricultural sectors.

Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo: "We are not talking about normalization [with Israel], but about relations. We also stand to gain from these relations, we are going to benefit from them.

[...]

"We hope that the people will see where Sudan's interests lie. We are tired okay? We are tired.

[...]

"[Even] the clerics sat with everybody and said that they have no objection to establishing relations with Israel. What I am saying is that we should see where Sudan's interests lie.

[...]

"It is true that we are obligated to the rights of the Palestinians, and to the Palestinian state. We are obligated to all of that. But we are also tired, my brother. How long have we been under siege? Now, we have met all the conditions in order to be taken out of the list [of states sponsoring terrorism]. Nothing is left now. It will happen this Friday or the next one. Secondly, we have our border and our airspace we can benefit from. Airplanes have connecting flights [with stopovers] in other countries. They should do it here, we are closer to the West.

[...]

"Israel is a developed country and the whole world cooperates with it. The superpowers cooperate with Israel. In terms of technology and agriculture, we need Israel. Honestly, Israel did not harm us and we are not afraid of it. However, we are talking about relations and not normalization."

[...]

Interviewer: "What are you going to do about people who say that the government is not empowered... This is an issue that needs to be resolved. There are several political powers inside the..."

Dagalo: "Doesn't this empowerment stem from the Sudanese people? We can have public opinion polls and see what people want. Let's have a public opinion poll. We have no problem with it. We support democracy and justice."
