Fadhel al-Sahlani, the Imam of the Al-Khoei Islamic Center in Jamaica, New York, said in a November 3, 2023 Friday sermon that Hamas has made a "big difference" not only in the Arab Muslim world, but for the whole world. He said that the same "settler policy" that maintained Palestine as an "open prison" for 75 years has been implemented in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Africa, and that maybe this Palestinian movement will make the "very sleepy" Arab world wake up. The sermon was posted on the YouTube Channel of the Imam Al-Khoei Foundation NY. According to several online sources, Imam Fadhel al-Sahlani has been in the past cited as the representative of Ayatollah Ali Sistani in North America.

Fadhel al-Sahlani: "One movement can make a great change, and here, what is going on now, what we are witnessing now... One movement from Hamas, it makes a big difference not only for the Arab Muslim world, but the whole world.

[...]

"These people in Palestine they will make a great change, and they already have made a great change in history. For more than 75 years, the Muslims, the Arabs in Palestine are in an open prison. This is the settlers, the policy of the settlers. When they came here to the United States, what did they do with the people [here], the Native Americans? What did they do to them? [They said]: 'Either give me your land, or I will kill you'. So it is a matter of property, a matter of land. The same thing happened in Australia, in Canada, in Africa...

[...]

"This movement, Inshallah, will make some of the sleepy Muslim Arab world – maybe they will wake up. Maybe the will wake up.

"It has been more than three weeks now, and they are begging here in the United Nations, begging the General Assembly, begging the Security Council to stop the war. Until this moment, it has not been approved, because the Zionist people in the White House don't want this war to stop."
