Mosab Hassan Yousef, the son of Hamas leader in the West Bank Sheikh Hassan Yousef, said in an October 30, 2023 video that he posted on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that Hamas is evil and that Israel cannot afford to give it what it wants. He said that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar orchestrated the October 7 attack in order to take Israeli hostages so he could "blackmail" Israel and the international community into releasing 5,000 terrorists. He said that Sinwar had once used a bathroom sink to behead a prisoner whom he suspected of collaborating with Israel, adding that Sinwar is probably hiding in a tunnel beneath the Al-Shifa Hospital and using hospital patients as human shields. He elaborated that Hamas is a religious terrorist group, and therefore cannot be persuaded to drop their violence and participate in the political process, because they would "prefer to die and not to drop their ideology."
Mosab Hassan Yousef is the author of an autobiography titled Son of Hamas, in which he reveals that he collaborated with Israeli intelligence services while he was a Hamas operative. Yousef has converted to Christianity and currently lives in the United States.
Mosab Hassan Yousef: "Why we cannot give Hamas what they want? Because Hamas is not only a political terrorist group, Hamas is a religious terrorist group. If it was only a political terrorist group, we could put enough pressure on them, where they get to the point that they compromise, drop their violence, then participate in the political process. But Hamas – you cannot bend them, because they prefer to die, and not to drop their ideology.

"They think that they are holy warriors. Their holy and sacred mission in life is to destroy Israel, force ten million Israelis to relocate, as a condition to build their Islamic state.

"Hence, we cannot give them what they are asking for.

"Yahya Sinwar is an ex-prisoner that was released in the Gilad Shalit prisoner swap, a few years ago, along with a thousand other Hamas prisoners. Soon after his release, he became the Hamas leader in the Gaza Strip. Today he orchestrated this attack on October 7, with one goal in mind, not only Jewish slaughter and the fear and violence that he meant to bring to the world, most importantly, he meant to bring back hostages [to Gaza], so he can blackmail Israel, blackmail the international community.

"This guy, Sinwar, is a hardcore guy. In fact, he beheaded somebody in prison, for suspicion of collaborating with Israel, using the sink of the bathroom. Merciless! This is the guy who is in charge of Hamas in Gaza today, and he's under the ground, most likely under Al-Shifa Hospital, taking patients in the hospital as human shields to protect himself.

"Qatar has been the wrong mediator in this issue [of hostages release], because they take Hamas's side, and they have been fooling Israel."
