Iranian Presidential Candidate Mohsen Rezai: The Holocaust Should Not Be Part of Our Political Discourse

#2136 | 01:49
Source: Channel 3 (Iran)

Following are excerpts from an interview with Mohsen Rezai, secretary of the Iranian Expediency Council and presidential candidate, which aired on IRINN, the Iranian news channel on June 1, 2009:

Mohsen Rezai: We should not just say all the time that we support democracy, and that the Palestinian people should hold a referendum. Instead, we should take action with regard to this initiative. When we come to power, God willing, our first plan with regard to Palestine... We will put aside the issue of the Holocaust and all that, because this should not be part of the political discourse at all. Our revolution was a rational one. We do not act in an adventurous or emotional manner. We will develop an appropriate foreign policy regarding Palestine – on the one hand, we will defend the resistance, and on the other hand, we will take the lead in international diplomacy. Our plan is to demand that the U.N. hold a referendum among the Palestinians as soon as possible, and we will progress step by step in this direction.

In all acts of terrorism that occurred throughout the world, not a single Iranian was involved. Not a single one. But everywhere they say that the terrorists are Iranian. This is a weakness of our Foreign Ministry, especially now – the ministry has failed. Despite all the evidence at the disposal of our Foreign Ministry – the fact that no Iranians were involved in any terrorist attack, and the fact that the entire world knows this – we are nevertheless being accused of terrorism? Those gentlemen, that country, whose name I don't want to mention – its citizens are the ones who have been caught in various acts of terrorism. Sometimes, even money comes from that country, but nevertheless, it maintains its place in the world, whereas we – although no Iranian has ever been involved – are still accused of terrorism.
