Iranian Guardian Council Spokesman Nejatollah Ebrahimian: The JCPOA Was Not Approved by the Majlis or the Guardian Council

In a recent press conference, Iranian Guardian Council Spokesman Nejatollah Ebrahimian said: "Neither the Majlis nor the Guardian Council approved the steps detailed in the JCPOA." He further said that the JCPOA was "merely a political document and cannot be considered a legal binding document for the parties." His statements aired on IRINN TV on October 18, 2015.

Nejatollah Ebrahimian: Neither the Majlis nor the Guardian Council approved the steps detailed in the JCOPA. This does not mean that they agree or disagree. They have not approved it, because it has not become a legal document. This is merely a political document, and cannot be considered a legal binding document for the parties.

The Guardian Council has examined the Majlis resolution regarding the JCPOA, and not the details of the promises that the government and the negotiating parties planned to implement.
