Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian On Al-Jazeera TV: Iran Will Not Watch From The Sidelines If The U.S. Fails To Restrain Israel; If The War Expands To Other Fronts, The U.S. Will Incur Huge Loses

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian discussed the possibility that the war in Gaza would spread to other fronts in the region, in an October 15, 2023 interview with Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar), conducted during his visit to Qatar. He said that after his conversations with the leaders of the resistance, the Israeli soldiers captured by Hamas are a "red line." However, they are willing to discuss the release of civilian and non-Israeli captives in exchange for Israel stopping its "war crimes," resuming water and electricity supply to Gaza, the passage of medicine and food into the Gaza Strip, and removing the wounded from Gaza. Amir-Abdollahian added that if Israel does not do so, the scope of the war will expand to other fronts. He said: "If the current situation persists, expanding the scope of the war will be unavoidable."

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian: "According to the consultations I had with the leaders in the region, and especially according to the views of the leaders of the resistance, any measure to stop the attacks by the child-killing Zionist entity against the Palestinian areas, and especially Gaza – if it does not lead to an immediate result, the fronts of the war might expand. This is not out of the question, and the probability for this grows by the hour.

[...]

"The [region] is like a warehouse full of explosives. At any moment, it might explode, and all the players will lose control of the situation. I would like to emphasize here that America cannot send messages to all the parties in the region, advising them to exercise restraint, while telling the Zionist entity and the Israeli warmongers that they can perpetrate any crime in Gaza. The Islamic world and the resistance factions will not tolerate this. The Islamic Republic of Iran will not watch from the sidelines, if this situation continues.

[...]

"If America does not abort this policy, expanding the scope of the war will become unavoidable. If this happens, the U.S. will incur huge losses, in addition to Israel.

[...]

"In my meetings with Qatari officials and with the leaders of the resistance, I realized that the issue of the Israeli and military captives is where the resistance draws the line. However, they are now studying the issue of civilian captives. If the right circumstances exist, the resistance will put the examination of their release on its agenda. Therefore, the resistance, in keeping with human and Islamic values, will act wisely with regard to the civilian and non-Israeli captives.

[...]

"I held discussions with the various political players in the region, and everybody believes that there should be a complete package, in exchange. The purpose is to prevent the expansion of the scope of the war, to stop the Zionist war crimes against the civilians, to send urgent humanitarian aid, to solve the problem of water and electric supply being cut off, and the lack of medicine and food shipments, and opening the border crossing for the wounded. All of this should be done..."

Interviewer: "And if Israel does not do this? Will there be more fronts?"

Amir-Abdollahian: "This package... During the political talks, there was an idea that the issue of the captives could be on the agenda. However, if the current situation persists, expanding the scope of the war will be unavoidable by the resistance on the other fronts."
