Iran-affiliated Mayadeen TV Reporter Abd Al-Rahman Al-Hassani spoke about his family members "martyred" in Gaza, on Mayadeen Network (Lebanon) on October 26, 2023. He said that he had hoped that it was his family members who were killed in the Al-Ahli hospital "massacre," because he could tolerate it. Al-Hassani talked about his uncle Iyad Al-Hassani, a senior commander with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad's military wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, who commanded the group's May confrontation with Israel. He added that his brother, Muhammad, followed in their uncle's footsteps and was also an operative of the Al-Quds Brigades, and in fact he was one of the first people to travel to Iran, Syria, and Lebanon in 2012, to learn how to operate the Kornet anti-tank missile. Al-Hassani continued to say that the blood of his family members is a "gift" for the "beloved great commander Mohammed Al-Deif" and PIJ commander Ziyad Nakhalah. He added: "We say to him: Proceed. Don't be afraid."

Interviewer: "Ten of your family members were martyred, in this barbaric Israeli bombardment, which has continued for three weeks on the besieged Gaza Strip."

[…]

Al-Hassani: "When those ten [people] were martyred, Allah immediately replaced them in my heart with patience, honor, and pride. Allah took this great love to Heaven and replaced it with patience.

[…]

"The moment the [Al-Ahli Hospital] massacre took place, I said: 'Allah, may it be members of my family, and not those innocent people,' because I can tolerate this, and be patient. My relatives were hoping for this for a long time. They were prepared for this.

[…]

"This is my uncle, Iyad Al-Hassani, who was a high ranking commander in the Al-Quds Brigades. He commanded the "Revenge of the Free" battle and was martyred 5-6 months ago. We loved him. He supported us. He supported my brother, Muhammad, who was working with him, doing the same thing, in the operations unit of the Al-Quds Brigades. Muhammad was one of that unit's commanders, and he was also martyred, Allah be praised. He followed his uncle Iyad's path, the path of his brother, Rimah, before him and the path of Sami. Allow me to reveal a small secret…"

Interviewer: "Go ahead."

Al-Hassani: "I apologize to the brothers in Al-Quds Brigades for revealing this secret. Muhammad was among the first people who traveled in 2012 to Iran, Lebanon, and Syria, and trained in firing Kornet [anti-tank missile]. When he returned to Gaza, this is what he did.

[…]

"This blood we sacrificed, Allah be praised, is a source of pride for anyone who feels human inside. We give this blood as a present to the man who launched this war, the beloved great commander, Mohammed Deif, and to the man who continues on the path, brother Ziyad Nakhalah, Abu Tareq. We say to him: Proceed. Don't be afraid. We are with you. We are with all of you."
