On April 22, 2023, a Telegram channel which supports Iran-backed militias reported that an American "MQ-1 Gray" drone was shot down by a missile fired by "unknown" individuals as it was circling Amerli, near Kirkuk, in northern Iraq. The channel shared photos and a video allegedly documenting debris from the drone.
