On May 11, 2021, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram bot criticized a Telegram channel allegedly belonging to a prominent ISIS supporter after he questioned the validity of a bay'ah, or oath of allegiance, given to ISIS that is made via digital means. He also questioned a fatwa given by ISIS ruling that operating a business in areas controlled by Syria's Assad regime is a violation of Islam.
