On January 22, 2020, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) tech group released a statement accusing what they refer to as an "intelligence mercenary" of masquerading as the tech group and creating several accounts on chat applications to target ISIS supporters, sending them malicious links and files. The tech group warned ISIS supporters to stay away from these accounts and shared links to its official accounts on Riot, XMPP, and Threema.
