Pro-ISIS Tech Channel On Telegram Recommends Using LineageOS On Android Devices

On April 13, 2018, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram channel recommended that ISIS supporters who use Android phones install the open-source operating system LineageOS.

The post said that "most" ISIS supporters use "old Android devices that are not supported by manufacturers," which makes them vulnerable to hacking or unauthorized access. As such, it recommended using LineageOS, saying: "The big open-source projects such as Lineage OS aim to protect the old Android devices that are [un]supported and isolated from the security updates and support updates and patches to close the gap So the use of the Lineage OS system is absolutely necessary to maintain your digital security." The post also gives information on U.S. government hacking efforts.
