Middle Eastern Hackers Blackmail Indian Pharma Companies, Banks

A report on January 18, 2016, indicated that several Indian banks and pharmaceutical companies were targets of ransomware attacks by hackers based in the Middle East. Ransomware locks files on an infected PC and the hackers then demand a ransom payment to unlock them. The report indicated that the hackers demanded a ransom of 1 bitcoin (30,000 rupees) per infected computer. The hackers used the Lechiffre ransomware software.
