On March 18, 2022 a user on the Rocket.Chat server operated by the Islamic State (ISIS) published a post warning other supporters against using Telegram. The user said the security of the encrypted app has been compromised by the presence of Western intelligence agencies, and particularly that of France. The post included an infographic produced by a pro-ISIS outlet specializing in online security, comparing Telegram with other platforms, including Element, Signal, and WhatsApp, ultimately recommending Element as the most secure option.
