On May 26, 2015, Iran's Fars news agency reported that a U.S. cyberattack on the Iranian Oil Ministry had failed.
Iranian Cyber Police head Brig.-Gen. Seyed Kamal Hadianfar told a cybercrimes forum that the country had foiled "a U.S. cyberattack" on the ministry "in the last two months." He added, "The [Iranian] Cyber Attacks Emergency Center... could thwart hackers' attack against the oil ministry."
He added: "These hackers were from the U.S. and we informed them (the U.S. officials) of the issue in an official letter and also issued an international judicial order and the issue is now being pursued by [Iran's] foreign ministry."
Earlier, in February, Maj.-Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi, who is senior military aide to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, revealed that several cyberattacks on Iran's scientific and industrial infrastructures had been pushed back by Iranian experts, and underscored the necessity for adopting a preemptive approach against future threats to the Islamic Republic.
