Identity of Los Angeles County Phisher Revealed To Be Nigerian Hacker

On December 20, 2016, it was reported that a Nigerian hacker was behind a phishing scam that had victimized at least 108 employees of Los Angeles County on May 13, 2016, when he leaked the personal information of at least 756,000 individuals. The details include first and last names, driver's license or state identification numbers, home addresses, phone numbers and/or medical information. Affected offices included Assessor, Chief Executive Office, Children and Family Services, Child Support Services, Health Services, Human Resources, Internal Services, Mental Health, Probation, Public Health, Public Library, Public Social Services and Public Works. An investigation revealed that the hacker was Austin Kelvin Onaghinor of Nigeria, who had already been arrested and charged with nine counts, including unauthorized computer access and identity theft.
