On August 1, 2023, the Houthi Ansar Allah Movement Information Center shared an official statement in which it called on supporters of the movement to boycott YouTube and other social media that "undermine the voices of the free Yemenis." The center also called on government bodies to take steps against the social media platform which, it claims, "fights against the Yemeni people" and tends to side with Saudi Arabia and the U.S." This statement was issued in response to a decision by YouTube to block more channels operated by the Houthis, in addition to the 18 Houthi channels it blocked on July 17 – a decision which sparked statements of condemnation from the Houthis. The pro-Houthi Yemeni Media Union which operates in the territories under Houthi control, also published a condemnatory statement and called on the Houthi journalists to take action against "the massacre" that YouTube is perpetrating against the Houthi media, and also called for the blocking of the platform's services in the territories under Houthi control.
