Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS)-Affiliated News Agency Warns Against 'Security Breaches' On WhatsApp, Recommends Riot, Wire, And Signal Instead

On November 26, 2019, an article in the Ebaa' weekly newspaper, which is published by the Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS)-affiliated Ebaa' News Agency, cautions readers against using the WhatsApp instant messaging application, listing five security vulnerabilities. The article written by the "tech team" warns that these and other breaches may expose users, particularly revolutionaries and mujahideen, to surveillance by intelligence agencies, further alleging that WhatsApp's owners share user data with these agencies. The Ebaa' article recommends instead "safe and reliable" applications such as Riot, Wire, and Signal.
