Hackers Post Protest Message On Electronic Signs In Iranian Airport

June 14, 2018

On May 24, 2018, hackers accessed the electronic signs in the airport in the city of Mashhad, Iran, making the signs display a message protesting Iran's military activity in the Middle East, including the "wasting [of] Iranians lives and financial resources in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)." The hackers accessed and sent news of the hack from the email account of Mashhad airport civil aviation head Mohsen Eidizadeh. They asked passengers to take pictures of the signs displaying the message and post them on social media with the hashtag "Protests_alloverthecountry" in Persian.

Mashhad is the city where massive anti-government demonstrations started on December 28, 2017, and then spread to over 100 other Iranian cities.
