On December 10, 2015, the English-Language Taliban channel on Telegram titled Al Emarah News offered its readers the option to receive group updates via the messaging service WhatsApp. An image posted to the channel included the phone number and username with which users could join the Al Emarah WhatsApp group. The message posted on Telegram read: "Glad tidings, All Muslim brothers can register their names with the following number to receive all Al Emarah releases in Pashto, Persian, English and Arabic languages. To register, send your name through Whatsapp to Al Emarah and receive breaking news and video releases of the Islamic Emirate."
