According to the Somali website Garowe Online, Puntland Information Minister Warsame Abdi was assassinated August 4, 2009 by gunmen in military fatigues. The website also reports that the jihad group Al-Shabab Al-Mujahideen, which controls parts of central and southern Somalia, has reopened the international airport in the southern city of Kismayo, which had been closed since mid 2008, and has called on airlines to use it.
