On April 17, 2024, Sabereen News, a Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed militias in Iraq, published a letter sent by Ismail Haniyeh, the Qatar-based political leader of Hamas, to the channel.[i]

Haniyeh's letter was in response to one sent by the channel to offer condolences over the loss of his sons and grandsons in an Israel strike that targeted Gaza.

Addressing the admins of Sabereen News, Haniyeh thanked them for their solidarity with him and the Palestinian cause: "We thank you for your kind solidarity and your sincere and noble feelings, which confirm the solidarity and unity of our nation, and all the free people of the world, in supporting and assisting our just cause, and our Palestinian people, who have been subjected to a genocidal war for more than 190 days, and against whom all brutal crimes are being committed by the Nazi Zionist occupation in blatant violation of human rights and all international conventions," reads the letter.
