On April 20, 2022 a Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed militias in Iraq published a series of posts claiming that Iraqi hackers launched two cyber attacks that day, targeting Israel's Ben Gurion Airport and the Bank of Israel. The hackers were described as "the sons of Al-Muhandis," in reference to slain PMU leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who was killed in a U.S. airstrike alongside IRGC Quds Force commander Qasem Soleimani.
Another Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed militias reported a cyber attack on the "Zionist government," adding that a similar attack had taken place the previous day.
