On January 4, 2022, a Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed Shi'ite militias in Iraq published a video showing a drone attack on Ayn Al-Assad U.S. airbase in Iraq. The channel had previously posted images of a drones that had been shot down by the base.[1] The attack appears to mark the anniversary of the January 3, 2020 assassinations of IRGC Qods Force commander Qasem Soleimani and Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Deputy Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis in a U.S. drone strike near Baghdad airport.
