Syrian Opposition Website: Drone Shipment To Eastern Syria IRGC Base May Be Part Of Response To Soleimani, Al-Muhandis Assassinations

On December 25, 2021, a Syrian opposition website reported that a large truck carrying several drones entered Syrian territory that day, through one of the border crossings manned by the Iran-backed militias. The sources quoted in the report stated that they believe the shipment is part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) preparations for an offensive operation to mark the second anniversary of the assassination by the U.S. of Qasem Soleimani, commander of the IRGC's Quds Force, and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis deputy chairman of Iraq's Al-Hashd Al-Sha'abi (Popular Mobilization Units, PMU), which took place on January 3, 2020.
