Syrian Jihadi Fighters Solicit Bitcoin Donations In Interview With Pro-Al-Qaeda Outlet

On December 9, 2022 a pro-Al-Qaeda media group published a five-page interview with anonymous jihadi fighters in Syria, who said they are in desperate need of funds and called for donations of bitcoin.

The fighters were quoted as saying that "we have cadres, elite forces, and plans to strike the enemy, but what hinders and debilitates the brothers is money – a lack of it and difficulty in obtaining it." They added: "If they will have sufficient money, you will see good – Allah willing – and the operations will increase, as well as the number of brothers. We will restore the glory of jihad and return Syria's pride." The details of a bitcoin wallet were provided as part of the interview, and a QR code for accessing it.
