Hamas Reveals Cyber Attack Unit Allegedly In Operation Since 2014, Reports Past Cyber Attacks On Israeli Military Targets

On October 13, 2022, a Palestinian news website reported that the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, revealed the existence of a cyber unit that has been working in secret for over eight years. The unit was allegedly founded by in 2014 and was called "Al-Quds Electronic Army." It was tasked with launching cyber attacks against Israel. It reportedly started off with "experiments" cutting off the electrical supply to Israeli kibbutzim, and then to Israeli watchtowers in the area, and carried out cyber attacks against Israeli military facilities during the war in May 2019 targeting regional IDF headquarters and several bases.
