Veena Malik: "I worked in Pakistan for seven years, and approximately 99.9% of the people who worked with me were gay. They would tell me how painful their lives were because of the many problems they faced. Today, science has proven that it is one’s genes that determines whether one will be gay or lesbian.

"I believe that all – whether animal, plant, or human being – should have the full right to lead their lives [as they see fit]. I would like to say today that every gay or lesbian – every living being – should have the right to lead their lives [as they see fit]."

TV host: "I did not ask whether gays or lesbians have the right to lead their lives. My question was directed to [you], a woman who has read a translation of the Koran. I asked whether you had consulted the Koran before giving a statement in support of gays and lesbians. Did you consult the Koran after that?

"I am asking this because the Koran is explicit about the nation of Lot and what happened to them."

Applause from the audience

Veena Malik: "But that nation of Lot makes up a large part of our society today, and they should have the right to lead their lives the way they see fit."
