On January 27, 2009, the Islamist forum Al-Shura posted a 30-minute video by the Islamic Movement in Uzbekistan, that featured mujahideen of German origin addressing Muslims in Germany and urging them to join the jihad in Afghanistan.

In Al-Jazeera Website Interview, Al-Qaeda in Arabian Peninsula Emir Hints at WMD Attacks

On January 26, 2009, the Al-Jazeera TV website www.aljazeera.net posted an interview with Abu Basir Nasir Al-Wahishi, Emir of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. According to the interview prologue, the interview was conducted as "white phosphorous bombs were raining down on Gaza City" and at the same time as Osama bin Laden's audio message was released – that is, most likely before the ceasefire in Gaza. The prologue also states that AQAP operatives Nayef bin Muhammad Al-Qahtani and Abu Sufyan Al-Azdi Sa'id Al-Shihri were likewise present; Al-Shihri is a former Guantanamo detainee who recently appeared together with Al-Wahishi in a video.

Lashkar-e-Taiba Vows To Continue Armed Struggle In Indian Kashmir

According to a report in the Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Nawa-i-Waqt, the Pakistan-based militant organization Lashkar-e-Taiba has rejected media reports that it is considering abandoning its policy of armed struggle against India in Kashmir.

Swat District: Taliban Release List Of 45 Wanted Politicians And Lawmakers, Ask Them to Appear Before Shari'a Courts or Face Death

The Taliban in the Swat district of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province (NWFP) have released a list of 45 persons, including former and serving federal and provincial ministers, lawmakers and provincial legislators, warning them to appear before the Taliban courts or be prepared for death.

U.S Nationals Arrested in Somaliland On Suspicion of Terrorism

The Somaliland-based news website www.somalilandpress.com reports that four U.S. nationals have been arrested in Hargeisa, capital of Somaliland, on suspicions of terrorism. Also arrested was a woman from Mogadishu who rented lodgings to them.

Video Message from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula

On January 23, 2009 the Islamist website Al-Faluja posted a video message from Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. The video consists of messages delivered by four commanders in the organization, two of whom were formerly prisoners in the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. In their messages, the commanders urged Muslims to assist the Palestinians in Gaza, called for attacks on Western interests in order to pressure them to stop aiding Israel, warned imprisoned mujahideen of the Saudi "counseling program to reeducate extremists," and warned the Saudi regime to stop protecting Western embassies, churches, and military bases.

Abu Yahya Al-Libi: It's Time For Britain to Pay For Its Historic Crime

On January 22, 2009, Islamist forums posted a 31-minute Al-Sahab video of an address by Al-Qaeda commander in Afghanistan Abu Yahya Al-Libi. In the video, titled "The Fierce Fighting Has Now Begun," Al-Libi states that the recent events in Gaza prove that Islam and apostasy cannot coexist, and calls on the Palestinians to fight under the banner of Islam. He stresses that the Palestinian cause is a concern of the entire Muslim nation, and calls on Muslims worldwide to "strike the Jews and the countries that support them, by all possible [means], especially [by targeting] their economic interests, political institutions and military bases." Al-Libi also threatens Britain, saying that it must pay for its "historic crime" of facilitating the establishment of the Jewish state. The following are excerpts from the address:

'Kayhan' Editor: Arm The Palestinians; Student Basij Leader: Over 100,000 Students Registered For Martyrdom

The editor of the Iranian daily Kayhan, who is close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, said at an international conference on Gaza that "it is imperative to send arms freely to the Gaza Strip."

'Atiyyat Allah Says U.S. Waging "Dirty War" in Afghanistan, Warns of Attacks on U.S. Civilians

A new article by Saudi Al-Qaeda ideologue Lewis 'Atiyyat Allah on the war in Afghanistan was posted on the Islamist Al-Faluja forum. The article, published by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Fajr Media Center, is titled "The Criminal Americans Are Stumbling and Waging a Dirty War." Though dated November 2, 2008, it was published only now.
