Bülent Yıldırım, the president of the Turkish Islamist IHH (Humanitarian Relief Foundation) NGO called in an October 13, 2023 public address posted on the IHH YouTube channel for a "blockade" on Israel, retrieving the Turkish ambassador from it, and closing its embassy there. He called on the American people to protest the "fascist, racist, apartheid American regime." Yıldırım said that Israel would drown in a "spoonful of water" and the United States and England cannot save it. When he quoted U.S. Secretary of State Blinken, who said that he has come to Israel "as a Jew," the crowd booed and jeered. Yıldırım repeatedly asked the crowd whether they are ready to become martyrs, and they responded with loud cheers.
In May 2010, Bülent Yıldırım led an IHH "Gaza Freedom Flotilla" onboard the MV Mavi Marmara, which was raided by Israeli navy commandos.
