Following are excerpts from an interview with U.S. citizen Haleh Esfandiari, after her release from Iranian prison. The interview aired on IRINN TV on August 21, 2007.

Reporter: Please tell us how you feel now that you have been released.

Haleh Esfandiari: I am very happy. This has been most unexpected.

[…]

Reporter: How did the prison officials treat you while you were there?

Haleh Esfandiari: Their behavior was extraordinary, very good. In my ward, I had my own room. My room was very large and bright, with a window. I was allowed to go out to get some fresh air. Whenever it was possible, they would allow me to get some fresh air. The food in prison was very good. The women who work in this ward are really extraordinary women.

[…]

The men who interogated me were extremely courteous and extremely decent. We had mutual respect, mutual courtesy. They would always ask me if I was tired, and I would say I wasn't. If I got exhausted, because of my age, I would go to my room.

[…]

Reporter: How do you feel now that you are going to meet your mother and family?

Haleh Esfandiari: How do I feel? I feel happy. If you had let me meet them earlier, I would have been even happier. Thank you, goodbye.
