Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed said in a January 30, 2020 interview on Channel 1 (Tunisia) that the Deal of the Century is the "injustice" of the century and that anybody who normalizes relations with Israel or who is in contact with Israel is guilty of high treason. He added that the culture of defeat that has taken over Arab society is an ideology of "deceit" and "collaboration" and that the normal state of affairs regarding Israel is to bring an end to its plundering and an end to the displacement of the Palestinians.
Kaïs Saïed: [The Deal of the Century] is, in fact, the injustice of the century. I would like to reiterate this for everyone to hear: This is high treason, not normalization. The culture of defeat that has taken over Arab society is more [powerful] than actual defeat. Defeatist ideology cannot lead to triumph. The defeatist ideology is an ideology of deceit. Furthermore, it is an ideology of collaboration. I will not take back what I said here. The concept of normalization [of relations with Israel] is foreign. It was introduced into the Arabs’ vocabulary after the signing of the Camp David Accords. Prior to this, the term had not even existed. There should be no talk of normalization today, because the normal state of affairs with this plundering entity is to bring an end to its plunder, and to bring an end to the displacement of the Palestinian people. Anyone who considers this “normalization” to be normal is committing high treason.
Anyone who is contact with this plundering entity is a traitor and is engaged in high treason. I reiterate this for the whole world to hear. This is not part of an election campaign. It is a matter of principle, because the Palestinian cause will remain in our conscience as long as we breathe and as long as our hearts beat.
