Following are excerpts from an interview with Syrian National Council member Haitham Al-Maleh, which aired on the Al-Jazeera network on December 18, 2012:
Haitham Al-Maleh: According to the Geneva Convention, any civilian collaborating with occupiers or combatants is considered to be a legitimate target. Since the outbreak of the revolution, Russia has been talking about “gangs,” or whatever it wants to call the revolution, and has been supporting the regime with weapons, equipment, and logistics, as well as political support in the Security Council. The same goes for Iran. Therefore, the citizens of these two countries, and of any other country fighting against the Syrian people, are considered legitimate targets for the rebels in Syria.
