Syrian MPs on Former Syrian Vice-President Abd Al-Halim Khaddam: He is a Scabies-Afflicted Camel, He Should be Beaten on the Head with a Shoe Until it Breaks

Following are excerpts from a Syrian parliamentary session, which was broadcast on Syrian TV and Al-Arabiya TV on December 31, 2005.

MP Abd Al-Razzaq Al-Yousuf: I call upon the political leadership to bring this Khaddam ("servant") to trial. He is mentally deranged. There is no doubt about it. He has many delusions. If he thinks that he will return to Syria one day as the "leader of a democracy," he is mistaken. He is a traitor in our view, and his punishment, in the people's eye, is known to all. He should be beaten with a shoe on his head until it breaks. My only fear is that the shoe would say: "When a shoe hits Khaddam on the head, it cries out: what did I do to deserve this beating?"

[...]

MP I'tisam Samadi: In ancient times, when the waters of the Nile would rise, they would throw in Egypt's most beautiful girls. This, of course, was done out of ignorance and out of the blind belief in an insatiable "Tannin" monster. Today, we see that the Tannin indeed exists, and that nothing satisfied it anymore.

[...]

MP Bahaa Al-Din Hassan: He has named his palace in Bulidan "The White House." Where did he get this name? This indicates that even then, he was loyal to his current masters. He owned more than 500 cars.

[...]

MP Omar Sa'ati: My congratulations, you traitor, for the last payment you received from the political midget, S'ad Al-hariri, and from his masters in the United Sates, and from the enemies of my homeland - with its elderly, it's youth, its women, and its children.

Come back to us, Khaddam, so we can crush you underfoot. We are the people and you are our enemy. Thank you.

[...]

Unknown MP: This scabies-afflicted camel should be cast out. Oh, homeland - the hand that feeds has been bitten. And by whom? By this scabies-afflicted camel called Khaddam.

[...]

Go to hell! No Syrian citizen will ever forgive you. You have committed an offense against yourself. If you ever dream of returning to Syria on an American tank – no citizen would accept such a thing.

[...]

MP Faysal Kulthoum: I say that Abd Al-Halim Khaddam is a "dormant operator" – just like the term "dormant cells," used by people when they talk about terrorism.

[...]

Unidentified MP: The waste he helped to bury in the Tadmor Desert... Ask at the nuclear medicine center in Damascus how many locals suffer from cancer, because of Abd Al-Halim Khaddam. Abd Al-Halim Khaddam is a man who has no manly traits.

[...]

MP Abd Allah Al-Atrash: Mr. Speaker, I will be brief: May Allah curse him! He has thrown a stone into the well from which he drank.

[...]

MP Sh'aban Shahin: I listened to the interview given by Mr. Abd Al-Halim Khaddam, the former vice-president to the TV channel called Al-Arabiya ("Arab TV") – which the Arab public, from the ocean to the Gulf, calls Al-Yahudiya ("Jewish TV").

[...]

Wasn't Mr. Abd Al-Halim Al-Khaddam ashamed to say what he did – (the same Khaddam) who once pleaded with the late Hafez Al-Assad to release his son, who smuggled US dollars out of Syria?

[...]

MP Muhammad Habash: Like other Syrians, I listened to what Abd Al-Halim Khaddam said yesterday. Like others, I felt nauseous when I heard him talk about poverty, saying that more than half the Syrian people live below the poverty line. It is sad that the person who says this lives in a luxurious Parisian palace. If the statue behind Abd Al-Halim Khaddam's head was appraised, it could help many poor families.

The Syrian people don't eat from the garbage. If anyone in this country used to eat from the garbage, he's a member of the well-known gang that ate from the nuclear waste which was buried in the depth of our pure desert.

[...]

Speaker of the House: I propose to delete the word "Mr." preceding Khaddam's name from the protocols.Thank you. The word "Mr." will be deleted from Khaddam's name wherever it appears in the protocols.

[...]

I propose we deliver the following letter to the President Bashar Al-Assad:

[...]

"...On behalf of the people, we demand that he be tried for high treason. Honorable President, you will always be the jewel of this country, may Allah guide you."

Who is in favor? It's unanimous.
