On January 1, 2021, South African Shiite Scholar Maulana Aref Rezaei dedicated his Friday sermon delivered virtually, at the Ahlulbait Mosque Complex in Cape Town, to the anniversary of IRGC Qods Force commander General Qasem Soleimani's assassination. He said that while Soleimani is not physically "with us," his soul, and those of PMU deputy commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis and Hizbullah Chief-of-Staff Imad Mughniyeh will always testify on behalf of "us." He detailed the rewards given by Allah and the angels to anyone who sets out on Jihad and falls in the battlefield. The sermon was posted on the official YouTube channel of The Ahlulbayt (as) Foundation of South Africa.

Maulana Sayed Aref Rezaei: "General Qasem Soleimani, and his friend Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, was killed by the hands and orders of the [most] miserable people of this world. Although, General Qasem Soleimani is not among us, physically, but his soul is always a witness for us — not only his soul, [but also] the soul of Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, the soul of Imad Mughniyeh, and the souls of other commanders and soldiers of the resistance.

"When a person makes a decision to participate in Jihad, Allah guarantees freedom from the fire of Hell. When he takes his sword, angels start to honor him. When he says goodbye to his family, he will be purified from his sin. Allah will give him double reward for any good action that he will do, after he leaves his home for the battlefield. After he enters the battlefield, Allah gives him a lot of rewards that the people of the world cannot even imagine. When he starts to fight, angels have a mission to protect him, and when he falls down and becomes a martyr, angels say 'peace' upon him."
